Affordable Valentines For School
Here are two very affordable Valentines for school. I never thought much about the cost or time involved with classroom valentines until we entered the public school system. We started out in a smaller school that capped out at 20 students per class, so it was easy to buy or make 20 of anything. Once we moved and entered public school, we now had about 35 students in each class. Thats over SEVENTY items to buy or make! It was difficult to find cute and affordable valentines that didn’t break my bank. And seriously, how many heart shaped suckers does any child really need? Here are two things I came up with that are {simple} and affordable!
Cupid’s (pencil) Arrow
I was looking at Valentine cards and saw this cute little cupid’s arrow that was drawn with a heart as the arrowhead. It gave me the idea to make one! Here is what you need:
- Pencils
- Feathers
- Foam Heart Cut-outs (Or you can cut or punch them out of red paper)
- Glue
- Thin Ribbon(optional)
- Printed Tags(optional)
You can buy a dozen festive pencils at the Dollar Spot at Target. So for me, I would need 3-4 packs per class. A bag of feathers cost about $3 at Michaels, less with coupon. I had the hearts, but I think that package was purchased several years ago at Michaels for about $4, on sale.
Attach two of the hearts together with glue. If you use hearts with adhesive backing, you’ll save a step and all you have to do is stick them together with the pencil “point” in between them.
Next, tie the feather over the eraser end of the pencil with a thin ribbon. You can also attach a label with your child’s name or a Valentine message before you tie it.
It was very quick and {simple} to make. I think this one took me a whole 2 minutes, which included getting the supplies out!
Next up is one that is even faster to make!
Love Potion!
I’ve heard that some schools enforce a “No Candy” Policy. We aren’t that lucky, but here is what I decided to have my children bring to school for their parties this year. I got this idea from a children’s party we were at, where there were labels on the water bottles printed to match the table decor. Below is my “mock up”.
- Mini Water Bottles
- Printed Labels
- Ribbon (optional)
