Candy Cane Sugar Scrub

December 8, 2013   |   8 Comments

I have such cracked and dry skin this time of year! My hands look about 10+ years older than I am, if I don’t exfoliate and moisturize. Sugar scrub is one of my favorite ways to keep my hands soft(ER) and smooth(ER) during this cold and dry season.  I make many variations but I love making this one and it also makes a great holiday gift!

Candy Cane Sugar Scrub

  • 2 1/2 Cups White Sugar
  • 1 Cup Sunflower Oil
  • 1-2 Cap Fulls of Pure Peppermint Extract (or you can use 5-8 drops essential oil)
  • 2 Crushed Candy Canes

Finely crush your candy canes. I put the canes in a plastic bag and use a meat tenderizer.
Then place your sugar in a large mixing bowl.  Measure out your oil and add the extract to the oil before you add it to the sugar.  It blends much better this way.  Mix together until the whole mixture is moist. If its too dry, add small amounts of oil until its the moist and not crumbly.  Now add your crushed candy cane. Once blended, store in an air tight container.

I will put some in a good mason jar if I am giving it as a gift, otherwise I store my own in a small tupperware like container near my sink. If you choose to use this as a body scrub, either eliminate the candy cane or make sure it is crushed into very fine pieces. If not, it may be too abrasive for your skin.

This is after just one treatment. When I use this daily, my hands look WAY better!

I found these pretty red ombre jars at Michaels’. We made a triple batch of the scrub and gave them as teacher gifts this year!
