We love In-N-Out Burger. To celebrate the end of summer, tonight we made our own version of In-N-Out burgers at home. “Animal Style” was on my menu tonight. So tasty! No In-N-Out in your area? No problem! Here is how to make your own till you can get the real thing!
First I began with the “spread”, which is very similar to Thousand Island Dressing. I mixed 3 parts mayo with 1 part ketchup. Add 1 teaspoon dill relish. Once blended, add about a teaspoon of red wine vinegar. Consistency should thin out a little. Chill until ready to use.
While the burgers were grilling, I fried up some onions in a little olive oil, until golden. An “animal style” burger is not on the standard In-N-Out menu, but one of the most popular items on their “Not So Secret Menu”. The burgers are mustard-fried, which is where you brush yellow mustard on your burger before you grill it. It is topped with lettuce, tomato, fried onions, spread and you can add pickle and cheese, if desired.
They were SO good! If you want to skip the bread, eat it “Protein Style”, which means is wrapped in lettuce. One of my favorites! If I’m really watching what I eat, I order Double-Meat-Animal-Protein-Style and skip the fries. The fries are really good and they also can be ordered Animal Style. They’re topped with spread, fried onions and melted cheese.
I added some avocado to my burger. YUM!
