Girl Time At Jimmys Famous American Tavern

December 7, 2016   |   1 Comment

My teen daughters and I love getting out to a fabulous restaurant for great food and a little girl time. I’ve mentioned before that we like to slow down, catch up and savor every bite of delicious food. In addition, its also important that we find great teen-friendly restaurants. Once the kids are at this age, they’re not ordering kids meals anymore. They are most certainly a factor in restaurant selection. We recently had the opportunity to attend a menu sampling at Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern in Brea, Ca. “J-fat” serves up some incredible modern American regional cuisine with an artisanal touch, boasting an exciting brunch, lunch, dinner, appetizer and amazing full bar experience. We chose to go for lunch and it exceeded all of our expectations!

Our first impression was how friendly the staff is! Everyone we encountered was so personable, attentive and knowledgeable. The environment was very cool and stylishly casual with a great outdoor dining area, complete with patio heaters for chilly nights. J-fat is a traditional American pub with a modern twist. Everything is prepared daily, from scratch, using fresh ingredients. We began our meal with some appetizers. I don’t know which one we loved more??!!

The dining experience with each of my girls is very different. One will look to try new things and savor every bite. My other daughter is a “cook” so when we go to a new restaurant, she will pay a little more attention to how the dish was prepared and how she can make something similar at home. I do both!

Charred Brussel Sprouts – Applewood Smoked Bacon, Pine Nuts, Maple Syrup. AH-MA-ZING!!! My “cook” loved this dish so much that it inspired her to make something similar at home!

Town Dock Calamari – Tender strips of Calamari with Serrano Chiles & a Spicy Remoulade. My younger daughter doesn’t care for most seafood, but tried a piece. She didn’t come back for seconds. She came back for FOURTHS! Big hit!

Our entrees were just as fabulous! I had the Signature Grilled Santa Fe Caesar Salad with Grilled Shrimp. The Green Chile Caesar dressing was delicious!

Our Famous Cheeseburger with Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Red Onion, 1000 Isle Dressing, served alongside Garlic-Parmesan Fries. (We added the pickles). This is truly a drool-worthy burger. Simple, yet memorable in every way!

Daily Fresh Fish (Halibut) with Asparagus, Mashed Potatoes, Almond-Caper Butter. This just melted in your mouth. Full of flavor, but not heavy.

With these, we shared the Ale Battered Onion Rings with Housemade Chipotle Ketchup. YUM!

And just when we didn’t think we could eat another bite. Or that it couldn’t get any better, THIS came out!

‘Bananageddeon’ – Fresh Bananas, Vanilla Pastry Cream, Pecan Blondie Crumbles, Butter Pecan Ice Cream, Salty Caramel Sauce, Candied Pecans, a Fresh Baked Cookie and Whipped Cream. OH EM GEE! It was THE BEST EVER!

“Here at Jimmy’s Famous, “Hospitality” is of the upmost importance. Our guests walk through the front door and feel as if they are home. This piece of our culture has built our success.” – Chase Layton / General Manager – Brea

This is absolutely true and having met Chase, he made us feel just like we were at home! I can’t say enough about our experience at Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern. We will be back for sure! I was so glad to discover such a great restaurant that my whole family enjoys!

Next up, we’re going to try their brunch! My friend Wendy @ Wendyful World recently visited J-FAT for brunch and it looked incredible. Besides the Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Malted Ale Waffles, check their photo of the Meal Mary! Its the most extraordinary Bloody Mary I’ve ever seen! See their review HERE.

There are 5 locations: San Diego, Dana Point, Brea, Woodland Hills and Santa Monica. For more information, please visit: Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern.

Don’t wait to try this restaurant! You will not be disappointed!

Everything looks so delicious, especially the ‘Bananageddeon’! I’ll have to give the one in Dana Point a try!
