Healthy frozen treats are one of my family’s favorite “food groups”! Yes, we often categorize frozen treats as their own food group. They also know if the frozen treat is healthy, mom will almost always say “YES” when they ask! You probably know that I make a lot of frozen treats in my blender, but I just tried something new that is AWESOME! I recently received a Yonanas Classic, A Healthy Dessert Maker, to review. I asked how this was different than the blender I was using before. The first difference is that the “nice cream” you make with Yonanas is the consistency soft serve ice cream. Secondly, with the deluxe blenders, you will need to add liquid or the frozen fruit will not blend.
This is very true. I have a lot of experience with creating sorbets and “nice cream” in a deluxe blender, as I have been making them for years. Even after all this time, I don’t always get the fruit to liquid ratio right and have to keep adding one or the other to get the right consistency. There have been plenty of times where I ended up with a smoothie when I wanted ice cream or just too much extra. With Yonanas, you use frozen fruit and NO liquid! Delicious, non-dairy frozen treats made with 100% frozen fruit! Clean up is easy too. It comes apart very easily and washed up quickly. (Ice cream scoop not included.)
A recipe book came with my Yonanas and its filled with fabulous dessert recipes. I also found more online and even created some of my own. Here is a glimpse of the yummy recipes you will find!
The frozen treats I’ve made from the book is the Cookie & Cream, Strawberry and Simply Yonanas. All were SO delicious! This was a mixture of frozen strawberries and raspberries. I found Yonanas recipes for Pumpkin Spice Latte, Key Lime and Mint Chocolate Chip on their website and I can’t wait to try them!
One of my favorites has been the Simply Yonanas, which is using only very ripe, frozen bananas. I top it with granola, sliced almonds and a drizzle of honey. It makes such a great afternoon snack when I’m craving something sweet.
I also made a frozen treat for just the grownups!
Skinny Strawberry Margarita!
- 6-8 Frozen Strawberries
- 1 Shot Tequila
- Mint leaves for garnish
- Granulated Sugar for rim of glass, Optional
Place frozen strawberries in Yonanas machine to make a “sorbet”. Scoop into glass, then pour tequila over it. Add mint leaves for garnish. (If desired, before you fill glass, either wet the rim with water or rub a slice of lime around it, then dip into sugar.) For a more blended margarita, simply stir until blended, then enjoy!
It was fabulous! I just used frozen strawberries to make a “sorbet”. Then I poured tequila over the top and added some mint. I had no guilt enjoying this margarita!
My kids even use the Yonanas Classic to make their own healthy frozen treats. We’ve made blueberry sorbet, Dole Whip and cherry chocolate chip. I prefer they use this over a blender, because I know they won’t be reaching in to a carafe where there are sharp blades. Many of the recipes call for mixing in frozen bananas with the other frozen fruits, and while it may add creaminess to the consistency, it is not necessary. I had great success using other fruits alone.
Yonanas healthy dessert makers are a great holiday gift idea for the dessert lover or someone you know who is dairy free! Our experience using Yonanas has been great. We’re so glad to have been introduced to it and we’ll be continuing to use it A LOT! Which type of fruit will you try first?
