What is your best cold busting remedy? With all the crud that has come home from school this winter, its a miracle that I have not been SICK, SICK, SICK! Not to say that I haven’t had a number of days where I was sure I was getting it too. But anytime I thought I might be coming down with something, I loaded up on some of the following:
Vitamin C – lots of it! Not only did I pop a couple of tablets throughout the day, I ate citrus any chance I got.
Lemon Water – I sipped this throughout the day. I get tired of drinking plain water anyway, so I often squeeze fresh lemon in my water. (MORE vitamin C!)
Grapefruit Seed Extract – Great antioxidant, fights infection, can also be used as a topical treatment for things like minor cuts, scrapes, athletes foot, cold sores, etc! WARNING! It tastes VERY bitter!
Zand Throat Spray – An herbal mist with Echinacea and Tea Tree Oil. I am prone to throat infections. If I get sore or start swelling, I start treatment immediately. It helps!
Oil of Oregano – Has antimicrobial and antiviral properties which help to fight a variety of infections and illnesses. Also used as a natural antibiotic alternative. I don’t take this consistently, but if I’m really on the verge of sickness, I often take this for a few days.
Raw Honey – There are SO many benefits to eating raw honey and I’ll go over those another day. But the reason I eat more honey during cold season is raw honey also has antibacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal properties.
* Use products as directed and consult your physician with any questions if you choose to try any of these.
